Thoughts on the Peak Design slide strap?

Is it the one that attaches to the tripod mount? I want something better than the standard strap, for (pretty much exclusively) shoulder use. (7D body)

I used this (well actually the one with the narrower pad, but that's no longer available) with a Sony RX10M3 on a Tour of India:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DTM9FII/ref=twister...

The Sony is a weighty bit of kit and the strap meant I can carry it all day with no problem.

I did have my doubts about quality as it wasn't a name I knew, but it's actually very well made.

I use a slide and a clutch.

Use my D500 -70/200 2.8 with a slide when at zoo it similar

The clutch when just got the 16/85 round town it similar.

Like the system for variable mounting points and didn’t like the Rapid.

I tend to have an L-bracket attached to my camera so have never really considered the Peak though I do love the rucksack mount. Might give one a try sometime.

Have used Black Rapid Slings for last few years. Really happy with those for a bigger cameras but tried their Metro one on a smaller camera and wasn't so keen. A bit of horse for courses going on.

Can you recall the make and model please?
I have the Sony a7iii and often carry it around with the 70-200f2.8 GM attached which is quite a weight, I would be interested in a strap I can have confidence in.

I've used a single shoulder strap for about 5 months.

I find it less obstructive. The camera doesn't bounce off my chest. The strap tends not to get confused with coats, hoods, that sort of thing. easier to protect in the rain.

Downsides: the main one is that the camera feels vulnerable. I tend to leave my hand down with it when walking to protect it. It's not, initially at least, a natural movement to bring the camera to eye level. The strap seems to take up an inordinate amount of space in my backpack.

It took a while to get the perfect positioning. It needs a quick release on the safety strap - cheap and easy enough.

Overall, I prefer it and have stuck with it.

Derek, with the Peak slide, my D500/70*200 sit on my hip, its a nice easy swing to nring the camera to eye, and if required, its very easy to just keep an arm by your side when in crowds for extra protection.

I use the Slide. I find it comfortable for an all day carry of the Fuji XT3 with battery pack and 100-400. Length easily adjustable and easy to sit on the hip and then swing up to eye level to shoot.

if only carrying the body with one lens I go with the thinner strap (can;t remember the name) and can hardly feel I'm carrying it.

I have the PD Slide, use it on my D610 and love it, much more comfortable and convenient to use than the strap included with the camera. I tend to use the clips on the right and bottom of the camera and have the strap across my right shoulder, so as to carry the camera at my left hip.

Thanks for that. I appreciate the head up.

I went to my local camera shop today to have a play with the Peak Slide. It didn't overwhelm me (the sales bloke kept plugging away though) and didn't feel massively better than my shoulder strap. However, on the bulk side, it has a massive advantage.

I'll see how I go this year. My current strap is a bit wide and thick (no jokes please) and if it does irritate I might try the Slide. Mine's very comfortable on a long day though, even with a bigish lens.

Age, you see.

I've got the peak design strap and while it's a great strap in use my one niggle is the aluminium tabs- I keep it separate to the camera in my bag so it doesn't scratch everything in there. That being said it is durable and seemingly well made so far.

Ah yes, good point . I forgot to mention those .
First thing I did was buy some sweatbands and put them over the clips for that reason.

I've checked these out and they look great. I have a quick question for anyone that's used them - how's the length? I'm 6'4" and struggle to find any that work well as a sling.

I'm about 6' 1" and it's fine for me, I have the adjusters set about 3 or 4 inches short of full length on each end. The camera sits at my left hip.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a chance, and if it's not quite right, I'm sure my wife will be more than happy to take it off my hands!

I have a few Peak bits (Capture, Cuff and Clutch), and like them very much, but the Straps all seem pretty thin, do they not dig into your shoulder after a while? Any comments welcome.

I use a Black Rapid Retro RS4 which has a nicely padded shoulder strap.

No discomfort for me (with a Nikon D610 and Tamron 24-70mm, my heaviest lens), I had that camera/lens combination on holiday in October and would wander round all day some days with it on. I rented a Tamron 150-600mm lens for a trip a couple of years ago and spent most of a day with that lot hanging off my left hip with no real issue.

Thanks for that, once last question, does it pack nice and small (the one failing of my Black Rapid Strap).

Fairly neatly, I'll try and remember to get a snap of my camera bag showing the strap packed away.
