Looking for some help.

I have a old JVC mini dv camera and would like to transfer the tapes to my hard drive.
I got a FireWire to usb2 lead off eBay but can’t even get my laptop to see any kind of device.

My laptop is an i7 running Windows 10

Any help would be much appreciated as these tapes have videos of my kids on when the where born etc and I need to get a backup.

I use one of these. Cheap, easy and efficient:

Had the same problem a couple of years ago, with wedding and honeymoon video from 2002 (also a JVC mini DV).

Ended up sending them to somewhere I found on the internet to encode them onto CD in a couple of different formats. Way easier than tracking down "old" cards, cables and software.

Cost about £25 and a week, from memory, and the resulting files are as good as possible given the original resolution. Got the tapes back as well.

From memory, JVC mini DV cameras are notorious for digital video output (FireWire) compatibility issues, go with the above advice.
