Hello all,

Looking for recommendations for a camera, photography would be purely automotive; I need something that represents good value but takes high quality images and is relatively easy to use to someone who has no photography qualifications. Any advice would be appreciated.

Think you will need to add in what your budget is and whether you want to take photos of static or moving vehicles.

Hi all. Static vehicles not moving, but I would need high quality images both from distance and close up. Budget I have no idea, does £500 get you a quality camera that will stand the test of time and frequent use? Thanks.

Do you want to keep it in your pocket, or do you want to carry a bag?

Keeping in a bag is no issue.

Okay... if that were me (and had to buy new), and for that rough budget it would be:

https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/2077/sony_alpha_a6...

and:

https://www.tobydeals.co.uk/en_GB/product/sony-sel...

Gives you wide angle to telephoto (near to very far!)

To give you an idea, this was taken with that lens and a 6300 (same camera with updates).

It's been printed at 300 dpi in many publications.

What's the purpose of the photographs?

How will the photographs be used?

Is there a website you could provide a link to that shows the style of photograph you want to be able to take?

I can make random suggestions as good as anyone else, but I suspect you have a specific purpose in mind and that will determine what you need and it will give an indication of what you mean by "high quality". Most people have a very different understanding of photographic quality to that of someone who is a photographer. And they tend to over-estimate what they need.
