Hello all,

Has anyone used this company for buying and selling camera equipment? I’ve recently had delivered a new camera lens through my insurance and to be truthful it far exceeds my limited talent and is wasted on me so looking to sell and get other lenses more suited for a beginner.

I would keep the lens and use it to improve your photography. If you cash it in for a cheap lens then in a year or two you may wish you hadn't!

What's the lens?

I've bought and sold with MPB many times over the years with no issues. They will give you a much lower offer compared to if you sold yourself through eBay for example but they are a business after all.
The other alternative is CEX who may also make you an offer.

I've sold lots of stuff to them over the years, and when there have been hiccups (such as DPD 'losing' a lens) MPB have been excellent.

You'll get more money selling privately (Talk Photography forums are pretty good).

I've sold a couple of lenses and a camera body to them. I seem to remember it was pretty effortless, no drama. They paid me exactly what they said they would. If I needed to, I wouldnt hesitate to use them in the future.

I've used them to sell stuff to too, hassle-free so worth it in my opinion. Only once did they disagree with the condition I stated and I didn't accept the counter-offer and they returned it, no problem, no cost.

Any equipment I stop using I sell to them.

It’s a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 DG OS Sport Nikon, it’s really good but MPB have offered more than twice what CEX were offering.

I lost some of my other lenses that the insurance hasn’t replaced so is probably the main reason why I’ll sell it to fund other lenses.

It's a good lens, I've got the non-OS version and although it's a bit slow to focus at times, it's way cheaper than the equivalent Nikon 70-200 VR.

I sold a lens to them a few weeks ago. It was collected from my house by DPD at lunchtime on the Monday. MPB emailed me on Tuesday morning to confirm it had been received and would be checked within 2-3 working days. I actually got another email that afternoon confirming the lens had been checked and the agreed price would be transferred to my bank account within the next few days but when I checked my bank account that evening the money was already in there.

I also bought my used D7100 from them a few years ago and was similarly impressed with their service then.

How come they didn't replace your lenses, but bought you one you didn't want that was entirely different? I appreciate lens models can change but there would have been an equivalent.

I've used them several times to purchase gear. My last purchase, a long lens, failed just outside the guarantee period. They returned my money without quibbling and gave me extra discount off the replacement that I chose.
So they get my satisfied vote.

Sorry for the delay, the other lenses were ones that I picked up second hand over the last couple of years and had no receipts or proof that I owned them. This time though I have learnt my lesson and I’m going to photograph and document all the kit.

I have no idea why they sent the one that they did but I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. MBP have offered me a really good sum compared to some of the other companies so whilst I would love to have used that lens I can sell it to fund some others.

Last time I was on Talk Photography you needed a certain number of posts before you could sell on there.

MBP are fine but you'll get a better price from Camera Jungle. (Owned by Jessops, cheaper to buy from than MPB too).

Given Jessops' current financial woes, is it wise to still go to Camera Jungle...?

Well Jessops and Camera Jungle are still trading online. I'd have no hesitation in buying from either, or selling to Camera Jungle.
