We are always looking to take photographs of our cars and to make videos for YouTube, so we have today treated ourselves to one of these handly little Joby branded tripods, seemingly loved by other users. From what I have seen they can have the legs wrapped around fences and similar, and so they are very useful for shots like drive-by videos, etc. Looking forward to receiving it and getting it out on a road test so to speak, if the rain ever stops that is.

I've tried a gorillapod thing too but I don't think they're sturdy enough for anything much bigger than a compact or smallest SLRs. You can't wrap it round things but I've got one of these for the times when a normal tripod is too bulky. It seems to work ok for a big SLR and a modest lens, even for several second exposures, and you can extend the legs to get it a little further from the ground or wherever you perch it. Not so easy to control; you tend to need to aim the camera a little high then it will settle slightly once the clamp is tightened. Better than nothing though.

Well, talking of names, yours is rather splendid!
