Canon 77D and Nissin Di700A

Still finding my way around with the camera. However as we have visiting Hedgehogs i want to try it in the Garden

Fitted the Flash onto the camera and did a test shot in the house both in A+ and M mode. Both worked ok.


Out in the garden..Hog gets on the food i left out. Hit the shutter button NOTHING in both modes

Back in the house flah works

Any Canon bods out there can explain what i am doing/setting wrong?

Could be ..

Camera wants to get confirmed focus before allowing shutter release, flip to manual, get rough focus, f5.6 on 50mm @ 3m gives you ~ 30cm dof to pay with.

Could be. Was it dark outside? If so does the flashgun have an AF assist light?
