Need to do some vox-pop interviews and for various creative reasons, will be using a GoPro. Two things...

Is it possible to run an external power supply to the camera rather than having to keep changing over the batteries?

And would anyone have any recommendations on a half-decent external microphone. This has to be a hand-held mic.

Cheers in advance.

You can use external power via a powerbank into the USB-C port. You need to remove the battery door if you are going to use the gopro frame. The door just unclips.

No idea about the external mic - could it connect to the HDMI port next to the USB?

To attach an external mic on the 7, you need this rather clunky adapter that plugs into the USB port:

It’s a shame they got rid of the mini jack mic port they had on the older ones.

The adapter gives you a mini jack port for a mic, and a USB port- so I think in theory you can run power through that, but I’ve never tested that myself.

As for a handheld mic, not sure I can recommend a good handheld reporter style mic- most of those will be xlr and require phantom power. Might be worth looking at what rode offer- they do a lot of mini jack mics designed for use with dslrs.

GoPro, plus battery bank, plus audio adapter, plus mic, is going to be quite a funky bundle of bits to rig up!
