Lens compatibility and sensor size
Discussion
Hi - recently got a Lumix mirrorless camera as felt quite limited by my old compact. It's a micro four thirds sensor with a 12-32mm lens. I need a telephoto lens too, but the one I'm looking at says it has a MFT lens mount (should fit) but APS-C sensor type (huh?) - it's a Lumix brand lens too. I understand the difference between sensor sizes, but can't fathom why a lens would have a MFT mount but (presumably) be suitable for APS-C sensored cameras?
Any help gratefully received!

Sounds like its been designed for apsc by whoever and adapted (by the manufacturer) to MTF.
Pretty common thing to do, sigma, tamron etc wont and dont need to design a whole new lens for MTF just change the register distance and mount.
Thanks - I’m not familiar with register distance, as new to proper cameras. If I just want to mount and shoot, I’d need a Lens with MFT mount and MFT sensor ideally? Te 45-200 right? I'm 98% certain that would work fine... what body are you mounting it on?It’s this

Link doesn't work for me but to reassure you, Panasonic really only offer MFT (m4/3) lenses or more recently full frame lenses. The latter are all £1k+ so you're unlikely to buy one of them by accident.
Are you sure it says APSC? Many panasonic lenses are branded with 'ASPH' which is simply short form for aspherical referring to glass used within the lens.

Looking some more it's only referenced on the John Lewis website so I suspect it might just be wrong info on there. All other mentions are of MFT... here's a screen shot. Are you sure it says APSC?
