Help with poor quality pictures i keep paying for
Discussion
I have been asking my very good and very helpful local media outfit to come and take some decent pics of my treehouse for ages, but each time they come the pics look a bit stty and washed out to me, funny colouring, poor quality, poor lighting etc etc.
Its not the easiest building to picture as the front is about 7m up in the air, so needs a drone, but im after pictures like this:
but all I seem to get back from my company is bleak looking images like this:
Is there anything I/they should be doing different, or do they look fine and im just being overly critical?

The images don't look particularly high res and I am not sure what post processing has been applied. Do you know what sort of camera was used? Some exif data and image size might help. It may be some of the Photoshop experts on here could improve things. Did they take any other shots from different angles? I can see how you are a bit disappointed.
I cant upload the full res pics here as imgbb wont let me, any ideas how i can show you them?
No idea on the format, I know they are using a DJI mavric, with I assume the built in camera, they also have Matrice and inspire but assume the access under the tree canopy is a little restricting

Did you ask them to provide sample images before you engaged them? That should have given you some idea of what they are capable of.
Maybe they've never done a particularly good job in which case you could be wasting your time trying to get them to improve.
Dont want to name names as they are a great bunch, but trust me, they do some of the best work I have ever seen and work for some huge clients, so they can certainly do itMaybe they've never done a particularly good job in which case you could be wasting your time trying to get them to improve.
Second one looks like a sunny day making light difficult. Overcast and/or golden hour is probably better for woodland, you don't get all the bright spots.
You can get big poles (like a monopod but bigger - 10+ metres) that was the only solution for inspecting roofs, doing fancy house shots, etc before the days of drones. Lets you get a decent camera up in the air and steady for this sort of shot, and can go as close as you like to the trees without risking a drone crash.
May be worth seeking out the photographers who work for the local estate agents when they do the glossy brochures for the high end houses, they'll probably still use this sort of kit rather than a quick drone shot.
edit: these look to be near you and do elevated/pole photography: http://www.fullfatphotography.com/property

With the heavy tree cover the lighting is always going to be an issue. Essentially all the light reaching the building is green, and if you correct for that then the whole thing goes quite flat.
The solution could be some better processing, but it's a fine line between making it look real and fake. If the camera is a cheap one on a drone that will also give you lower quality to start with.
The best solution - don't build them under trees!

OP, firstly what a fantastic tree house! Out of curiosity is it something you rent out or just for yourself?
IMO the only way to get the best photo of your treehouse is by using a proper camera (not a small sensor drone) and climbing up a tree. I think you need to find a photographer who is happy to go up a ladder, or ideally find a tree surgeon who has a photography hobby
Lighting needs to be perfect for that setting, as suggested golden hour will look amazing and I think an ultra wide angle needs to be used and then PP'd to correct for the distortion you can get from a wide angle.

Thanks Guys, im inclined to agree that it needs a proper camera due to the tricky light levels, so like you say, someone up a tree or with a pole system seems to be the way to go.
Ill investigate, thanks
Oh and yes, we rent it out, www.ravendere.co.uk

I've just had a look at your website and the place looks amazing! Very quirky, and looks beautifully done. I must also commend you on the staging which is very tasteful. I can see why you're fully booked for the rest of the year!
I'd love to give it a go (as I love a challenge), but fear I'm a bit out of practice atm and not in close enough proximity to you. Best of luck trying to find someone suitable and do post up the results as I'd love to see them.

Thanks both for your kind words
I'm over the moon with the interior pics and the videos etc, its just the outside pics i cant seem to nail, they are either taken stood on the decking but then they are too close and doesn't show it as a treehouse, from the ground but then we are looking up at the bottom of it, or a drone with proven rubbish quality.
Anyway, the offer of a free night for you and a plus one is there if anyone fancies the challenge, and to make the journey worthwhile.
