Can anyone give any recommendations for labs to process and scan film? I've got some 35mm and 120 6x7 to do. C-41 only at the moment, though maybe b/w in the future. I could process b/w no problem, but don't have scanner (or darkroom) any more. I had a couple of rolls of 120 done by AG labs recently and they were fine, but just wondered if there were any other recommendations.

It's 20 years since I've shot any 120, and we could process it for free at college back then, but the two rolls of colour 6x7 I've just had done worked out at £2.70 per frame! (Film, process, print 6"x7", scan to 80MB, postage.)

Labs are becoming as rare as rocking horse poo these days. Last one I used (15+ years ago), shut down 3 years ago.

Metro rang a bell and are still going and do a process and scan, but not very high res, you'd have to ask them about their scan services, they do drum scans if needed. https://metroimaging.co.uk/film-processing-prices/

80mb scan from a 6x7 print from a C type doesn't sound very exciting, better from a bigger print or the neg.

Or buy a s/h scanner if you need to do more in the future?

Jessops I've found are alright for colour processing. They will do 120 film and they will scan them. I think it's £6 for 1 hour development and another £6 for scanning to DVD (which would be high res). I wouldn't use them for black and white though, as I put in a roll of HP5 with them and it took nearly 8 weeks for it to come back.

I develop my own black and white film now, I use a dark bag to load the canister with film and then scan them myself. I bought an Epson V550 scanner for £180 and it's been a fantastic investment really. Haven't quite made my money back but I'm planning on scanning all the negatives that my mom took of us growing up over the next half of the year so it'll show it's value then.

It's probably obvious to all on here, but as a newbie to film I used a local Max Spielmann one-hour develop and scan service a week or two ago. The developing was fine but I though the scan size was a mistake, 600x400px !! I did phone when I got home to ask if it was correct and I was told "that's how it comes out of the machine".

You get what you pay for. I haven't used Max Spielmann so I don't know what they do, but I know when I went to Jessops you get two options. You get normal scans on a CD and "high res" on DVD. The normal scans are about 600x400px, but high res is larger. I can't remember off the top of my head though.

I've recently started to use film again and also used AG for a roll of Fuji Velvia 50 slide film. Happy with the results here, although they are not cheap.

For other options, there's a long running thread on Talk Photography in the film and conventional section discussing film dev and scan services in the uk here.

I used Peak Imaging recently and honestly couldn't think of a bad thing to say about the whole process.
