Has anyone actually got one? are they any good? are there any major pitfalls you have found?

I'm thinking about getting one just to take on holiday etc.

I have an Osmo Mobile 2 and very happy with what it can do, but it kills the phone battery.

I did go ahead and get one. For me it's quite a decent as it means I can shoot a bit of video when we are travelling. I've only tested the video capture on the cats so far so no footage to share here !

The one thing I will say is that the screen to control it is tiny and that's seen me take a number of pictures I didn't mean to but on the flip side the whole thing is tiny and easily goes into your pocket during a day out and about. I now always clip my phone in and use that as a screen to control the camera.

Was out at Kew yesterday and had a play with the 3*3 panorama function as the underlying stills seem decent in good light.

The DJI app creates a panorama and does all the stitching but throws away a lot of the image. I reprocessed the saved jpgs in a seperate panorama maker to get this file. 8,000 pixels wide from something you can slip in your pocket looks like it could be quite fun to experiment with. I expect I will need to find a way of stabilising the camera if i try this technique in lower light situations.

Overall I am pleasantly surprised with it right now and looking forward to using it more.

Just out of interest, why is it killing the battery? I had the Osmo Mobile 2 and the only battery drain on the phone was taking photos and video which isn't much.

I was looking at the Osmo Pocket as the biggest problem with the Mobile 2 was that I felt the phone was very vulnerable when using it.

I have no idea why, but I guess the phone would be down to 10% from fully charged in around 30mins just by being connected to the Osmo, my phone is an older iPhone 7 so maybe the battery isn't as good as it could be.

I've not really thought about the phone being vulnerable as such as I've not really used it anywhere where it could have been a problem, but it is a good point.

CVP, thanks for the very detailed response thumbup

That is strange. I never had the issue but I was using a Note 8 with it and I guess that the newer battery held up better. Also I think the large size of the Note made the Osmo more top heavy and didn't allow it to rotate completely.
