Last summer whilst on hols in Jersey, we saw the Jersey airshow and enjoyed it a lot. Been watching the recent Red Arrows doc and they showed them at RIAT and the other half has expressed string interest....

What do I need to know, is it good, is it worth the entry fee ?

What length glass is needed?

You won’t see much string, so she might be a little disappointed.

I got some great shots when I went, and will be going again this year.

I'm not going to try and put them up at the moment as I'm only on my phone, but I'm sure there's at least one thread in the photography section.

If you find them, all of mine were taken with a zoom up to 300mm on a Canon crop sensor.

Have a peek here, all the EXIF data is showing.

In terms of if it's worth it? IMHO it's worth doing at least once (and preferably two days in case one is rained off).

It's a huge event which requires an equally huge commitment in time and money to get the most out of it.

If you don't have a FRIAT package then it's queuing at the normal public entrances from 5am, but once the queues get moving then you're shuffled through fairly quickly.

I've done Duxford, Throckmorton, Old Warden and Waddington in addition to RIAT, but RIAT is the one to go to if you want the biggest selection of military jets and more unique acts in one place. Can't comment on how they compare to Cosford.

RIAT is great, but I felt royally stuffed last year when the F35B and the RAF 100 flyover was scrapped on the Friday for a brief storm, and the B2 turned up Saturday.

I know, I know it's not their fault....

Probably too late to reply, as hopefully you've already made the decision to go.
If the weather is bad, low clouds, and rain showers, then you might have several hours of nothing flying, so it's a good idea to visit two or more days. But when the weather is being kind, you'll get around 7 hours plus of non stop flying action.
In 2018 "In total, 302 aircraft, from 43 air arms representing 30 nations attended the airshow, of which 121 took part in the flying display."

Expect to a do a fair bit of walking, there's a lot of static planes on display, and other areas of interest (Techno Zone, Vintage Village, RAF Experience, Trade Stands)

The Air Tattoo website has a lot of useful info about the show, below are two areas which may be of interest
