Having a frustrating problem and wondering if anyone else has had similar to suggest solutions...

I bought a second-hand Tamron 150-600 f5-6.3 a couple of months back and have been pretty happy with it so far, the extra reach is very handy for birds and its not bad for sharpness etc.

However the last few days it has developed an issue where it frequently won't autofocus above about 400mm, focus just hunts in and out without ever locking onto anything. 400mm and below its fine, and it doesn't seem to be dependent on contrast or subject distance.

It also seems to be reporting a wrong aperture to the camera at the longer focal lengths - it goes from f/5 at 150mm to f/5.6 at 400mm which is right, but then instead of going up to f/6.3 it shows f/5 again at 600mm.

Camera is a Nikon D7200 and the combo was working fine until a few days ago, I'm pretty sure I haven't changed any settings that might affect it. I updated the camera firmware today to see if that would help resolve the issue but no luck there. I've contacted the seller who said they never had any issues with it on a D750.

It doesn't do it every time but since it first happened its gone from the problem being the exception to being the rule, sometimes I can detach and re-attach the lens and it will be ok for just a few shots and then dud again.

Any ideas?

Is it a gen 1 or 2?
Do you have the original bill of sale and warranty card as these have a 5 year warranty on them with Tamron UK.

Its a gen 1 - I don't have the warranty card or receipt from original owner and I don't know if Tamron NZ agents would transfer the warranty to another owner, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to follow up and ask.
