So after some advice on here about shutter speeds/ISO/other stuff I didn't understand! I bought a camera and an iMac - did a 2hr YouTube tutorial on how to use an iMac. Bought Final Cut Pro - another 2hr tutorial on that (my 12 year old explained what a transition was - so that helped!) And went to Africa with my motorbike.

Happy for a first go as an example of someone with "all the gear - no idea"

And a couple of mates, who couldn't care less about bikes, enjoyed it too - which was the idea! Every bike video I see tends to be loads of POV footage from a gopro - unless you are flying down a RedBull run thats pretty boring. Tried to tell a story instead.

Only down side was my learning curve was so steep that in the 10 days I've been back (and editing the footage) my editing was better at the end than the beginning - so I had to go back and re-do the beginning......by which time I was better than when I had done the end! Be nice when I settle into some consistency!!!!

Good effort I reckon, colour balance and exposure is a bit off in places, I'm guessing you are using two different cameras?

Apart from that thumbup

Good content, good story and epic backdrop.

More please smile

Its a good point - I use a mix of cameras - Go-Pro, drone, G7X and 80D. I didn't bother too much with trying to balance them all as I was happy enough with the slightly "DIY" nature of the whole thing - I was travelling in some pretty remote spots at time, and trying to capture what I could, when I could - so the feel is that....not a BBC documentary (ha! That's my excuse!) A bit the same with exposure - It's hard out there with the crazy sun to keeps tuff exposed right (learnt what an ND filter was the day I left for the airport so fitted it (and googled what it did) on the flight!) But again........not too fussed with the slightly DIY look.

All that said.....when I get the hang of it and it all matches......I'll probably think this looks terrible wink

As I am starting to venture into video making myself, so watch most of your video with some considerable interest

First thoughts-

You need to sort out the sound, fortunately I my computers feed through a hifi system with a large volume control within easy reach, so was able to turn down the music and turn up talking quite easily, but it got tedious after a while.

Your video is way too long for the material.

The joggy handheld stuff is tiring to watch.

All the above entirely in my own opinion, and from what I've learned already I can see a lot of work went into both the filming and the editing.

First off.....what's it like having Chris Martin and Sebastian Vettel as parents?

Secondly - as a first stab, that is a cracking effort. It probably is too long for anyone other than your immediate circle of friends and family and these sorts of vids tend more to be for you rather than anyone else. Worth doing a short two / three minute version with a link to the full version if anyone's so minded.

You'll pick everything else up as you go!

I think that was excellent for a first go, frankly. I'd say just keep making them and see how you get on. I agree on the sound level between speech and music etc, best thing to do there is just play it back to yourself while editing

Are you just looking to make videos for yourself/for fun, or is your aim to try and build up a Youtube channel?

Very much for me, friends and people in my Facebook group for the various activities we do (bikes for example)
