October Photography Competition
Discussion
So this month it's going to be something completely different. Hopefully entrants will also find it interesting, fun, even a new avenue of photography to explore, especially when it's cold and dark outside.
So this month's competition is 'still life', ideally table top stuff. I'll be looking for good lighting and good composition and colours that work well together. Bear in mind that the whole picture will be the subject, so good depth of field is called for. Small apertures won't be a problem though because the subject won't be moving, and if you use a tripod etc then the camera won't be either.
It's good if your composition can include several elements, it gives the eye something to roam over. A combination of man-made objects with flowers, fruit or food can work well together.
Rules:
The photos taken must be your own work and can be taken at anytime, but please stay in with your gear if you have time.
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for the following month and judges it at the end of the month.
Entries and discussion on this single thread, please.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 800 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.

This is one of four products I photographed for my work (IT guy, amateur photographer).

This isn't in the competition, but might set off some ideas...

Ok, I'm still a bit new to this so please be kind, I've never taken a staged picture before, one where I have had to design the scene.
Taking the still life theme and adding a motoring twist I came up with this. A better depth of field might have given a different result, but I was struggling for background ideas.

I know not everybody entering the competition is looking to win it, they may simply be posting their own interpretation of the theme. But I felt it appropriate to draw attention to the above line from the OP.Dumper truck by Lewis Craik, on Flickr
I had fun shooting a few things on my makeshift studio (aka the dining room table) using an LED torch for illumination. And yes, my son did notice that his dumper had been moved when he woke up this morning.
Well, that was easy!

Smack on brief, good selection of colours, objects arranged pleasingly, good composition and good depth of field. It's what I asked for and it's what I got.
Furthermore there's good control of the light, direction, angle and quantity.
Well done Noel. Feel free to share how you set it up.

Oh dear, I've just seen the pic on a big screen for the first time, that big black blob on the left near the spout of the yellow jugI work in a school in a faculty where photography happens. The GCSE class were playing with light trails and lighting objects in a dark room so I saw my opportunity. I arranged the objects on two sheets of A3 paper (which I didn't notice both had a big crease in!). I got a kid to hold a light on the left and point it at the objects and took the picture with my cheap phone, messed about with it in snapseed for 2 minutes (to add the big black blob!) and then put it on here as small as possible.
I much prefer Samcat's image.
Thanks for the win, I'll post up another challenge soon.
