Before we get started, I have used the search function and I can't find any threads discussing the merits of GoPro cameras versus their competitors that have been updated anytime recently. (If i'm wrong, I am happy to be corrected.)

Anyway, I have noticed this company pop up on twitter quite a lot recently.... https://www.olficamera.com/ their cameras seem very good and about half the price of a GoPro. Have also seen some good reviews of the Sony X1000V which is an option.

I'm off to Vegas later in the year and I'm really keen to get some good footage at nght, so that is my primary consideration. I know my old Sony Handicam used to really struggle with artificial light at night but I expect the technology has improved rapidly since then.

So given that criteria, what would people recommend?

Thanks

Any action cam will struggle in low light, the sensors are tiny on all of them.

What are you going to use it for?

If you have a phone with a good camera I would use that and get a dji Osmo 2

Whatever you do, get a gimbal aswell.

I've got loads of footage from my cheap action cam when we went last year but it's all shaky and not great.

A cheap camera and a half decent gimbal will give far superior results than a decent camera on its own.

Ok so now I’m looking at gimbals too! The DJI looks good but only works with a phone. I would rather buy one that works with a GoPro and a phone.

I am having the same dilemma.

There are adaptors that allow a GoPro to be connected to a phone mount. But I'm not sure what functionality you wouldn't get either.

I have a sony as200vr. The image stabilisation is great really smooths out when walking. The menu system is a pita but you get used to it.

I just looked at prices and no good deals at the moment. I paid £200 for mine with the remote but seems to be £290 ish now.

The yi action cams are good value if you can find an offer.

I would consider using your mobile or buy a compact camera if its not for action shots. I bought a lumix gx85 and its far more usable than an action camera.

Take a look at FeiyuTech gimbals. Mine is for GoPro, but sure you can get adapters for them (quick google search through up this adapter)
