Suggestions for an action cam for road trip please.
Discussion
To celebrate my 70th birthday next year I'm planning a road trip and wondered about an action cam to record it. It'll be fixed in the windscreen of my car, powered from the lighter socket and ideally record for as long as possible; is the maximum time limited purely by memory card?.
Low light / night time and sound quality not an issue but image stability could be (the car is a '63 Riley, not the smoothest on the road) and a waterproof case would be useful. Low to mid-budget as it'll rarely be used after the trip.
The SJCam family get reasonable reviews but I'd like to hear from someone who has used one, if possible.

I would get the Sony 3000 something or other, then sell it after.
It has optical steady shot and the best onboard mics of any action cam out there at the moment.

Can't go wrong with any of the newer GoPros or Sony action cameras. For a cheap one, the EE Action Camera comes with a remote watch which I found useful, picked one up for around £30-40 in a sale recently. Definitely go for a more expensive camera and sell it when you're back if that's a viable option.
I had a Sony AS30V which was starting to get on a bit, so bought a Thieye E7 from Amazon for about £60 on offer. Really impressed with it and cheaper than so many others. I use it mainly as a camera rather than video camera (same as the Sony) and the picture quality is really good. The video is good too, from what I've seen so far. I've only used it on a family holiday to France, so mainly in the pool, I haven't had the chance to take it out on my bike or surfing yet. Had a bit of a problem with the batteries Amazon sold as extras for it, they are a mm or two too wide, so made it too tight to get in and out. Ended up ordering a couple more and a remote from the Thieye shop (I think £25 for two batteries and the remote, so not exactly expensive).
