Camera for my girlfriend. DSLR? Mirrorless?
Discussion
Chaps
I am considering getting my girlfriend a camera for her birthday. She has expressed an interest in a DSLR; it would be to step up from her iPhone photos, principally taking pictures of castles and the like when we visit historic sites, plus all the normal photos one takes. It would have to be a relatively simple machine as I doubt she will get super into it - relatively point and click.
I am selling my phone to CEX and they will give me an extra 60 quid if I take vouchers rather than cash. I wondered if any of the cameras they are selling are half decent. However a quick Google has confused rather than helped with talk of DSLR v mirrorless etc. etc.
Wondered if anyone could let me know if anything here looked half decent and whether I should go for DSLR or compact:

The D3200 jumps out at me for the 24M sensor, and it seems to be well reviewed, as does the EOS 1300D. Budget probably c 250 and we don't mind used.

If its to upgrade upon and replace a smartphone then I'd suggest getting something with a flip/articulating screen and good wifi/bluetooth to enable seamless taking and transfer of selfies to social media. Without these capabilities, if your missus is anything like mine, the smartphone will always come out regardless.

Honestly... compact every time. You need to carry a DSLR and intend to use it. It's bulky. A compact will fit in pocket/handbag.... and the results are very, very good (as long as you get a good one).I am considering getting my girlfriend a camera for her birthday. Unfortunately it has to be on Cex as I get a good price if I trade my phone in to them for in-store credit! They don't have any stock of that one. Integroo said:

Well, you have to 'get into' DSLRs IMO. Bit pointless buying one and then using it in Auto all the time. However, this is present so difficult to judge I am considering getting my girlfriend a camera for her birthday. At £250 to £300, I would go new one gen old from one oif use trusted used retailers such as MPB and maybe get something like a Nikon 3300 and 3400.
However, it can be a bit of steep learning curve, so don't be disappointed when it gets put in a cupboard and never gets used, I found a course really helped, so maybe camera and a course as a combined present?

They have the M3 though ...https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail?id=sdigsonrx10...
My recommendation will always be to involve her in the choosing. If she doesn't like the feel of the camera or the menus, it won't get used and it'll be your fault.
Mirrorless still isn't there yet for me, but for many it is. There's no way of telling, so take her to a decent camera shop.
