Keep cannon 400d or upgrade to new cannon 80d or similar ?
Discussion
I have an old cannon 400d which I belive is about 10.1 megapix, just getting back into photography. I have a 75 -300 and 18 -55 lens for the camera.
Just wondering if its worth upgrading to a newer higher spec camera say a 77d or an 80d ? and will I have to buy new lenses ?
I am afraid I am a numpty with all the equipment but just enjoy the taking photos bit !!
Thanks
Phib

I changed from a 400D to a Fuji XT-20 a few months back. As far as I could see during my research the things your 400D can't do as well as a modern camera are
low light performance - there's virtually no noise at high (>1500 ISO) on modern sensors
autofocus - modern cameras are much better, more focus points, easier to change the focus point, etc.
Ant this is probably sacrilege but the 'auto' mode is really rather good for taking holiday snaps...
Plus the non-photo bits like wifi connectivity, live viewing on the rear screen are useful.
It depends on how important the top 3 are to you really, for me I wanted to downsize a little bit so went away from the SLRs.

If you are just getting back in to shooting again, I would suggest sticking with what you currently have and then look closely at the images it is giving you to see where they fall short, if at all. Once you have an idea of where your current kit is falling short or failing to deliver, you will have a better idea of what to look for in a replacement.
An 80D would be a big step up from your 400D, and your existing lenses would work. However, they aren't the best lenses and I'd probably look to upgrade them at the same time as the body.
What you have got will work for now as you are just getting back into it. My advice is to shoot with what you have for now, you'll be able to pick up what aspect of the kit is holding you back, then you can address that.
