Since changes my lenses etc, I need a new 77mm CPL filter, but I am confused over the options and price range.

Even if I pick a brand such as Hoya, they have CPL filters from about £30 to £250, which is surely ridiculous, and the cynic in me says they are probably made from the same filter material... or very similar.

My last one was a £35 Hoya I think, but do I have to buy an expensive one to avoid unwanted colour cast etc or can anyone recommend cheaper ones.

Lastly, why is the same Hoya Pro1 filter £40 on Amazon prime and £120 in WEX? Are there fakes of these around? or do the big online and high street shops simply have a huge markup?

Any thoughts?

Have a look at these articles;

Another Lens Rental CPL article

About the only testing I've seen on such things.

I bought a Gobe one from Amazon, arrived in new packaging but was very badly scratched. Returned and bought a Hoya one.

Incidentally, if you already have a larger one than you now find yourself needing then you could use step adaptor rings to use the existing one on a lens with a smaller filter thread, much cheaper than buying a selection of new filters for each lens if you tend to use a few.
