Afternoon all

Recently moved over to a DSLR (Nikon D7200) for video work. Better choice of lens's etc.

Question, if I purchase a variable ND filter am I better off buying a bigger filter than my lens fit and using an adaptor ring? Thinking about possible vignetting (sp!).

Many thanks beer

Just get one that screws on the end of your lens, one less bit of kit to mess about with.

I would actually avoid ones that screwed on, and go for slot based instead

I have screw in ones from break through, and whilst the quality is superb, its a pain in the arse screwing it on and off, especially if you want to recompose, change focus etc , much easier to just use a slot based system like Lee to pull in and out of.

Thanks for the help chaps. Decided to bite the bullet on a Tiffen variable ND and a couple of step up rings.

If you use a really dark ND it can make focusing difficult without removing it though so can be useful to have the slide in type sometimes, not a problem with variable filters of course.
