Sony A7r iii V EOS5 iv V EOS6 ii
Discussion
SO i took a quick look but couldn't find another thread ont he Sony, although i swear i read about it here, any how
After recently being blown away by the large prints made by Peter Lik, i thought about the equipment used to get such fine (invisible!) grain on such a large print.
After looking at the prices of medium format, and spluttering into my morning tea, i started to think about upgrading my Canon EOS6 mk 1 to either the new Canon 6 ii, the Canon 5 iv or a bit left field, the Sony A7r iii
Now i predominately enjoy shooting landscapes with some city shots, never motor sports or birds/ animals etc
I have the new Canon 16-35mm F2.8 and the new Canon 70-200 F2.8 , with a 2X converter (Canon) and was looking to add to this with a 28-70 / 28-105 L type lens.
It seems to me, whilst id love to own a EOS5, it doesn't give a huge amount over the new EOS 6 for my kind of photography, although the sensor is 10pct higher res
Then i randomly saw the spec for the Sony, it has a huge resolution and same size sensor, so i assume (and im ignorant on this) that it would allow the largest no noise image of the lot?
I like the eye tracking idea (my old Canon EOS3 had it, god knows why they discontinued it as a feature) and my 2 lenses will, apparently, work as well.
What are peoples thoughts on this? my main objective is to be able to produce large prints (3-4 ft) with minimal grain and noise.
Thanks

He used to shoot film on 6x17 Linhof but believe he switched to Phase1 backs, I assume 100mp, most probably on Alpa or Arca Swiss bodies with appropriate lenses. An awful lot more money than a 5Ds, but lovely results.satans worm said:

IIRC, the EOS3 used your eye as you looked through the viewfinder to focus on whatever it was looking at, which was pretty clever. The Sony autofocuses on the eyes of the subjects... which is also very clever.
Do you think so?
I certainly have a lot to learn in the post side of it, i just didnt think a 6D would blow up to a 4ft print so crisply with no grain?
I might try one out, but that 5D SR looks good, although a new one is due out later this year, so maybe i will hold off and see what i get with my current images first
Any thoughts on the Sony camera? its spec and small size seems too good to be true?

I have a Sony FF camera and a 5DS R. The Sony has some nice features, such as the eye detection and focus peaking, but I prefer the Canon for its handling, controls and menus. Having said that it's normally on a stand or a tripod so the weight isn't an issue, though having said that, by the time there's a decent zoom lens on the Sony there's not much difference overall.
I recently got a Metabones MK V adaptor so can use my Canon lenses on the Sony, which is nice.

I must admit im a little disappointed the eye focus is on the subject, not where you are looking in the view finder, i really loved that feature on my old 3.I recently got a Metabones MK V adaptor so can use my Canon lenses on the Sony, which is nice.
The more i think about it the more i think ill hold out for the new 5DS R, meanwhile I will improve my current rushed technic, and start making multiple shots on landscapes and learn how to stitch them into 1 photo to give more pixels on the overall image.

Yes, I've got a 3ft print on my wall that was taken on my 8MP 20D!I certainly have a lot to learn in the post side of it, i just didnt think a 6D would blow up to a 4ft print so crisply with no grain?

However I had full control of the post and printing process and I used software interpolation to get the required amount of pixels as determined by the resolution of the printer and the output size.
I'm sure a 6D would produce better results.
