Many moons ago when I first found an interest in photography, there appeared to be lots of glamour stuff being produced. Maybe it was just an 80's thing or perhaps as a young man it just caught my eye!
Has the world changed that much or are there still plenty of people shooting it? I'm not talking pornography, just long legs and stiletto type images. Red lipstick and black wide brimmed hats seemed in at the time.

A thing of the past. Because the only thing that enrages feminists more than men appreciating attractive women is attractive women appreciating being appreciated.

Fortunately for me I don't find the high heels and lipstick thing attractive, so the less there is of that sort of thing around, the better I like it.

Having said that, there is still plenty of thickly applied lipstick around hurl

Haha, everyone to their own! It's not that I particularly liked the look, it's just how I remember it back then. It was all punchy colours and Kodachrome back in the Athena days.

Stamped out by PC. Once every camera magazine had a bikini girl on the cover and often a feature about glamour photography inside. Why? Because photography was a male pastime and males like looking at females; it sold magazines.

The 80s were a simple, uncomplicated time unriddled with guilt.

I think there's a lot of truth in that. Men don't have to take photos of women anymore, as the girls are so busy taking the photos of themselves and posting them all over Facebook. All tight clothing, pushed up boobs and pouting.

I used to belong to a local camera club, mostly full of geriatrics, and one of the new guys submitted one of his pics for a competition.

On projector, we were getting the usual landscapes and portraits of animals when up popped a picture of a glamour shot of a lady on all fours in rubber gear and a dog collar.

That caused a few murmurs in the crowd. The elderly female judge just said "Sad - 5/10".

It made my evening. hehe

Brilliant. Very Bob Carlos Clarke! I belonged to a camera club for a while and there wasn't even a hint of glamour in competitions. I wondered what a tasteful swimsuit type image might provoke, but all fours is something else!

I don't think that feminists have managed to make any changes in male publishing or viewing habits although they would like to think they had. The thing that has changed magazine content more than anything else is the Internet. Why bother enjoying pictures of bikini clad models in a magazine you have paid for when you can see pictures of naked women for free on your computer.

There is a difference between glamour and naked women on the internet.

"glamour |ˈɡlamər| (also glamor)
noun
the attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special: the glamour of Monte Carlo, the glamour days of Old Hollywood.
• beauty or charm that is sexually attractive: George had none of his brother's glamour."

I agree there was a sleazy undertone to glamour in the likes of Amateur Photographer, back in the day, with a guaranteed pair of breasts in every issue, along camera clubs who organise 'model evenings', all a bit seedy.

I’m sure the feminist PC brigade have had an influence over the years, with shouts of men treating women as nothing more than meat, sex objects. So anyone photographing women in a semi naked but glamorous way is not acceptable anymore.

Which is ironic in these days of social media when any half attractive girl can’t help post themselves online at every opportunity, in a vain, pouting, sexually vacuous way. The complete opposite of glamour.

I’ve just finished watching The Talented Mr Ripley, which I had not seen for a while. The actors, actresses, cars and locations are all wonderfully glamorous. I wish there was more glamour in the world.

But alas, just like pit girls, not allowed anymore. It’s like someone dug up Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans are back in charge. frown

There are plenty of glamour photographs still being taken and uploaded onto flickr.com just use the search bar located in the top right corner. Flickr is one of those sites which does itself an injustice because if you haven't signed up to it you have no access and therefore have no idea as to just how many photos are available and being uploaded by users from all around the world every hour and day of the week, it's spectacular to say the very least - this ought to be the Flickr homepage - go take a look: https://www.flickr.com/explore

Well there you go. Plenty of glamorous images of women that are not sinister, suggestive or vulgar. Just the female form being appreciated. And that's what mother nature intended for men to do.

Glamour has moved onto Instagram, it is literally where all the models promote themselves and therefore where all the photographers are.

An ex of mine used to do amateur glamour modelling in the late 80's. It was good money at the time, £30 an hour IIRC. Although she did do up to "continental" level. It wasn't the career it seems to be now though !
