Lightpainting?

Anyone had a go? I had a play the other night on my merc after seeing a YouTube video.

I’m no photographer so chuffed with the results from a 30 sec exposure and a cheap led work light. Lots of room for improvement I know. Next time I’ll Take some more exposures and layer them .

I like the first one, and that's a really nice car too.

I don't get the point of the second one though, just looks like somebody scribbled on the picture.

BTW, don't use Thumbsnap, use Flickr.

I've been trying one of the other "light painting" techniques after reading an article about the US photographer Harold Ross. This involves mainly studio shots. The entire scene is in darkness and each item of the composition is then "painted" separately with an LED torch. All the images are then combined during post-processing and adjusted to get the required levels of illumination. Here's one I did recently:

It's time-consuming, but rewarding when it works out. I plan to refine my technique this year but need to find more suitable props and backgrounds.

I don't lightpaint that often as I tend to use strobes now, however its a useful tool and can produce brilliant results.

I think the last shot I did that was entirely lightpainted:
