I'm at a bit of a loss here. Went away for a 4 day break, didn't lug along a laptop for backing up files.

Now that I'm at home I'm getting card error on the SD card in the camera and my card reader wont even recognise it. Is there any chance of recovering the photos from it??

Thanks,

Rich.

Yes.
Most SD Cards come with some recovery software, or the ooption to download it.
If you don't have it, then
https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_S...
can be pretty good. I've used it to recover data from friends cards that had 'stopped working'.

Thanks, it's not even being recognised as a drive by any software that I've used. Photorec isn't picking it up as a drive either. Think it might be a lost cause.

There are companies that specialise in recovering data from SD cards, stick 'sd card recovery uk' into Google and it brings up a few, no idea of cost though.
Also, they may well charge you even if they can't get the data back - when I've undeleted files for people it's only when you're at the stage you can copy and paste the data you know whether you can get anything back or not.
Might be worth getting a quote and seeing if it's worthwhile for what's on there?

Don't touch it any further and pop it in the post to me. Not promising anything but I'll give it a go smile

Try https://www.isobuster.com/ I've used it in the past to recover photos from a CD that hadn't been closed and nothing else would even recognise the CD let alone recover the pics, it's now evolved to recover files from other media such as SD cards, etc. Has to be worth a try smile

I have used this often

https://www.easeus.com/

you have to pay for it but there are usually lots of offers if you Google for them, think I paid about £20 a couple of years ago, much cheaper than specialist recovery service

good luck

Thanks for everyones advice, none of the software will recognise it as a drive at all so it seems that recovery would only be through a professional company. Whilst I'm always loathe to give up, monetarily its just not worth while to proceed I don't feel.

Do you have something amazing you can try? If so I can pop it in the post, not got anything to lose and I appreciate the offer.

There's a few things i can try depending on how dead the card is. Happy to give it a go so just drop me a message and let's see.
