I video my rugby club’s matches. I edit out the non-playing time and the stats are calculated, but not by me. The video is used for training purposes. Actually both videos as I have two video cameras, one on wide and the other on zoom in for close action at set pieces.

The director of rugby (coach) has asked if he can get the match video beamed live to his laptop on the bench where he can run the live feed backwards at times during the match.

There’s no wifi on the current video cameras but both are nearing the end of their usefuls so we have budgeted for replacements.

Can anyone tell me what I would need? Or where I could get advice as to hardware and software.

You won't be able to beam (wirelessly) cable will be your only real option.

This is what I would do.

Run the camera feeds back to control by SDI (around 100 meters or so).

I'm guessing your cameras don't have SDI outputs so you would need some HDMI to SDI converters.

These can run off portable power packs by USB.

Then at control, the easiest thing would be two recorders using SD cards.

You will need a rack mount for these and a twin monitor

Then a lightweight rack case to put it all in.

Hope this is a starting point for you smile

Or if you wanted a cheaper option, just run SDI back to control and use something like a H.264 Pro Recorder and run it on a laptop.

You will need a good laptop for this and you will only be able to have one feed.

Thanks for that. I've gone through the links (one corrected) and think I've got my head around it. What I might do is go to one of the clubs in the division above us, or two. I was in with Wasps for a match and theirs is impressive, fascinating, but way beyond what we need or can afford.

I told the DoR it wouldn't be cheap. I've not been known for understatement.

Thanks again.
