I'd like to get a simple logo for using as a watermark for photos exported from Lightroom. I've tried a number of websites that claim to be free but then demand money to actually download and use the final image. I've tried using GIMP but I seem to struggle to get it to do text properly. I'm a bit reluctant to spend much money on another piece of software I'll likely use only once.

Any suggestions as to an easy to use and cheap or free website or application for this?

I take it you haven't got the Creative Cloud subscription with Photoshop as part of the package?

You know you can use LR to put the watermark in when exporting?

Just a quick qestion about watermarking. I see plenty of watermarks "@Photogrphers name". - Does (say) "@xyzphotogaphy" have to be a legitimate company/business name

No. I usually work on the basis that the more professional looking the name/brand on the watermark/Facebook page, the more amateur the photographer.

Watermarks should be reserved for professional photographers only. Nothing more cringeworthy than seeing a poor image with a professional watermark plastered all over it. So I would really consider why you want a watermark, do your images really need it? Are your images at risk of being regularly 'stolen' ? Are you wanting to 'get your name' out there?

Half the watermarks I see are just an attempt to compensate for a crappy photo. \

I assumed you was a commercial photographer if you was watermarking your images.

No, I'm not. I do sometimes share stuff online on Facebook groups etc. and have seen others' work stolen, at this stage just looking to deter casual image theft but maybe photography might develop into a sideline or something in future.

I haven't seen any of your images, my comment was was a general one and I still stick by it. Apologies if it upset you, this is an open forum for discussion and opinion, it's not really a place for sensitive wee souls like yourself.

Most watermarks can be easily photoshopped out.

I asked a simple enough and perfectly valid question, your response (to paraphrase) was to say "only crap images are watermarked, why do you want to do that?" If that wasn't how you intended it to be construed then apology accepted, but in the context of the thread it came across as pretty bloody arrogant. My reasons for wanting to watermark are my own and not yours to question or pass judgement on.

I can take criticism, constructive or otherwise, but one of the things that gets my goat about the photography community in general is the level of negativity and arrogance towards others' work or requests for help or advice on forums, Facebook etc.

You're wound a bit tight mate, relax. That wasn't my point really but nevermind, it's only an opinion.

If it is just a text watermark you want, Lightroom can do that.
