Looking to rent a decent long reach lens for a trip to East Africa in January. We have Nikon DX SLRs. For wildlife photography.
Any recommendations? Both lenses and places to hire.

Can't vouch for them personally but have heard good things about these guys: http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk

As for lens, I use a Sigma 150 - 600 Contemporary which I'm exceptionally pleased with. You'll need a monopod as well.

LensesforHire by a country mile. Fab service, more relaxed than other companies (no deposit, can despatch to other addresses) and very easy return process (everything is in the box).

Whichever lens you choose to hire - I'd recommend renting one beforehand and spending a couple of days shooting with it - to get a feel for the lens before you head out on a big trip.

As for lens recommendations.... I don't think Nikon makes a poor super telephoto lens.... one thing to watch out for is the potential massive weight of these lenses and the physical size. It depends on how much reach you already have in your camera bag....

As you'll be traveling around - the new Nikon 300mm f4 is very compact and with a teleconverter could make a good travel companion for you.

The new Nikon 200-500 seems to get excellent reviews as well.

Of course - we'd all like to justify the monster 400 2.8 with a teleconverter biggrin

Another vote for Lenses for hire, used them a few times now and always had exceptional service. Last one I had from them was a Sigma 150-600mm Sport, it's a heavy beast but remarkably good.
