Also a new hero 6 and probably the most significant thing is the software update for the karma drone which now makes it very tempting.

I hope they have managed to increase the battery life on the new Hero 6!

Let’s hope the new software for the Karma makes it worth buying too, it needs something serious to catch up to the DJI Mavic Pro ( ok I’m biased as I love my Mavic,)

I’ve not been disappointed with battery life on my Hero5, I managed to film my whole Stelvio Pass journey on 1 battery and having 3 of them I just rotate with one always on charge via powerpack.

It's the same battery as the 5 according to DCR.

Key improvements seem to be better low light performance, better dynamic range and jumps in resolution frame rate (4K/60, 1080/240) along with IS@4K.)

I'm more interested in some of the 360 offerings coming out though - I think they add a more immersive experience for the sort of things I'm filming (running up and down mountains mostly.)

My first foray into 360was with the Nikon Keymission 360. It was a very high quality Nikon it,e and on its own was ok.

But and it’s a big but, the software was cronicaly bad. It kept forgetting he Wi-fi settings, and as that means the wireless remote didn’t work either it rapidi,y became unusable.

Thanks to Amazon, I got a full refund and bout the Garmin VIRB 360 instead,

It’s a great improvement, and works really well plus they are adding more options in software all the time.

Here’s a recent video in my Caterham at Curborough.

Looks good. I should probably make a point of checking out Virb Edit a bit more often - I've got a Virb Ultra 30, picking that over the Hero 5 due to the sensor link in. But I always felt that Virb Edit was a bit over simplified - and crucially (for an action cam editor) lacked software IS. So I ended up using Powerdirector 15. It's streets more powerful, but lacks the ability to overlay G-metrix which is a shame. Given the choice of shaky footage with nice overlays or smooth footage with no overlays it's currently a no brainer though. I do wonder if I could somehow overlay the data from the .fit file (which is recorded by my watch, independently of the Virb) but I can't see it being an easy project.

In hindsight though I'd have bought the Hero 5 for the slightly higher FPS if I'd known I wasn't going to use G-metrix.

I'm holding out for the 360 kinks to be ironed out; the battle seems to be Garmin vs. GoPro again but I'm more interested in their next iterations than the current ones.
