Sony lens or Tamron?

I'm just about to buy a Sony NEX-6 (with the 16-50 kit lens) before they become obsolete and am in a quandary about which longer lens to go for.

I cannot decide between the OE Sony 55-210 with OSS or the Tamron 70-300. I can see advantages in both; Sony is stabilised, Tamron is very slightly quicker and significantly longer; Tamron is also half the price!

I've read the various reviews which seemed inconclusive in separating them; anyone got any real-life, hands-on opinions please?

Not quite an answer to your question, but I had the Tamron 70-300 A-mount lens on my Sony Alpha 500 and was disappointed with it, so ended up buying the Sony G-series lens (which is great). The Tamron was noisy and always 'hunting'. There was also a very noticeable chromatic abberation at longer focal lengths (250mm+). Maybe worth trying both lenses before you decide?

Edited to add: If you can get to Stevenage, Digital Depot is a great shop and has a good range of Sony cameras and lenses at VERY good prices - I bought my A77 from them and couldn't fault their service (they were also the cheapest anywhere on the web)

Deal done! When I went to buy the camera, I was offered the Sony 55-210 lens at a price I couldn't refuse. Happy bunny.
