Gimp 2.8 vs Photoshop?

For sometime I have been using gimp 2.8, 2.6 before it, but wherever I turn for advice on improving my photo editing technique most are using Photoshop in one of its flavours. Would I really benefit upgrading to Photoshop? What is the difference between the versions?

I don't think there is anything revolutionary in Photoshop since content aware fill in cs5 but lots of good improvements.

Cc is only 10 a month anyhow and it's about 10 million times more betterer than gimp
