Funny that, I was contemplating making a similar thread. I understand what effect aperture, shutter speed, ISO has. Vaugely what metering does. These things can all be easily understood by looking at youtube videos or websites. You can also get an idea of composition of photos and how lighting affects your shot.
For me I just need a way of combining all of it and applying it to situations as I mainly just shoot in aparture priority mode. Doing trick shots and the like. From what it seems like to me most photos that look 'pro' have a good deal of post-processing (think photoshop) with added filters etc.. *puts up flame shield*

Look at your local colleges. I recently did a studio lighting course at mine which was 2hours a week for 5 weeks at a cost of £35. It was pretty basic but as I don't do a lot of studio work it was good to get hands on with the equipment plus it gave me 10 hours of studio time with a selection of willing models all for 35 quid.
