selling prints

Hey guys...

Does anyone on here sell prints of their photos ? Probably do.. where do you advertise to get interest ?

probably silly questions but i have only recently been told by a number of people that i take good photos.. So im tempted to try and sell some.

Selling your photography requires good photography but more importantly good business skills, I know a lot of excellent photographers who don't know how to market themselves and hence don't earn anything out of it.

I use my own site, www.markmullenphotography.co.uk which is a Zenfolio site. I blog on there, have Facebook and twitter accounts to spread the word.

You can have a free trial of Zenfolio and if you want to use it let me know and I'll send you a referral code where we both get a few quid when you sign up.

Out of interest do you make much from this site? I'm not looking for specifics but are we talking it paying for the photo habit or it's a good income on it's own?

It's something I've been thinking about for a while, mainly because people keep telling me I should. But these people tend not to be photographers so I generally assume I'd be paying for the site with no return.

I'll not be retiring soon but I do ok on print sales and it also helps as a showcase, I've had a few commercial jobs as a result of the website.

It's all about 'footfall' at the end of the day... Just need to get shed loads of people to visit your website, then the revenue comes. I just checked and my site is currently 2.3 million places above David Cameron's in the popularity stakes. Luckily for him, he doesn't sell photos, or he'd be stuffed.

And deservedly so!

As long as the site paid for its self I'd bd happy! Possibly enough cash to buy more shiny camera things and I'd be delighted!
