Monitor for editing

I'm looking for a reasonable monitor for editing photos. I currently use my laptop, it's got a pretty good screen (for a laptop) but I'd like a bigger screen and to know that the colours are right.

Around 24" seems to be a good size, but I'm not sure what features I need. Budget is currently unknown as they seem to range from £150 upwards and I don't know how far up I'll need.

Any good screens out there for reasonable money?

If you don't mind a glossy screen, then these new Dells are quite good:

We bought a few at work and I've been impressed by the depth of colour and clarity from them, particularly in the dark shadows. Glossy screen gives reflections if you have windows behind you, but in a bedroom with the curtains closed this should be less of a problem.

I just use my Macbook, did away with the iMac. It's also a 15 inch screen, and colour calibrated using a Spyder which is good enough for me.

If you want a bigger screen, I'd go with the HP LP 2475W, it's matt rather than glossy and has an IPS panel, which is what you want for accuracy. There's no guarantee the colours would be right though as that'd be coming from your laptop, so calibration is something to look at as well.

Me too - the image & build quality both seem very good; it only arrived yesterday.

Also you get a bit more vertical resolution (1920x1200) so good for editing photos.

Yes, that extra height works really well. I'd definitely recommend it.

Dell has very good warranty too.

So the ips screen is the one to get as long as you calibrate it?

I'll have a look at the dell stuff

Yes, the colours are supposed to most accurate with IPS and viewing angle is good too.
