Photos Session In London
Discussion
Hi Guys
I treated myself to a dslr over christmas as i wanted to be able to take decent photos for my work. After a few hours of a friend teaching me the basics, we headed up to london for a little night time shooting. As all my close friends are PH Members I thought I would get a couple of my friends car. Hope you like and be kind, this was the first time I had ever used a dslr camera!
Cheers Mike

If you want some (rank amateur) critique I would say the following could be better composition wise.
nb these are all to my eye, please feel free to disregard or shoot down in flames
Shot 1 - Car is too central, would like to see more space to the left of shot, in front of car, somewhere in between the first and second shot perhaps but my issue with the second is the car is placed on the left, would work better on right of shot I think. The light trail in shot 2 is a good idea, I don't think that particular one adds much to the shot though.
Shot 3 - You have chopped the bottom of the wheel off which is a shame. Would also like to see a version without the headlights on as I find the bright wall distracting. If you wanted the back lights to be on, could be achieved by headlights off but foot on brake.
As DD said a good first effort, not easy in a city location with lots of different light sources (none of which you control I guess), they do look well exposed on my laptop screen

Absolutely sts on my first outing out with a DSLR. I didn't have anyone to explain anything to me, but I came back with a wonky picture of a large tree as the pick of the bunch
Nice set, though. You might want to look at slightly longer exposures or even light painting the car - there are a little dark in places but it's not easy with that many lights. There are myriad tutorials at your disposal on the first page of Google or Youtube alone. Also composition wise they could be tweaked but I wouldn't get too hung up on that yet. Practice mastering the settings before you start getting nerdy about rules of thirds etc.
Enjoy the camera!
