My other half is beginning to dabble in semi pro photography and is thinking about trading up from her 40d.

A couple of her better lenses are compatible.

Body only online ranges from 18-2300. Slrhut and procamerashop appear to be cheapest but they are "imports" by the looks of things. Aren't they all?!!

Where should she be buying?

If its for comercial use buy from a registered canon reseller in the UK with full warranty and ability to be used for CPS.

If you buy a package (body and lens) before the end of January don't forget to claim the cashback on the lens.

Managed to get £80 back on mine smile.

Www.camerapricebuster.com or www.flashcamera.co.UK

the latter is US stock but recognised by Canon UK as a UK supplier, therefore warranty is fine. I bought my 5D2 there.

This, possibly, but bear in mind to be accepted you need at least 2 qualifying bodies and 3 qualifying lenses.

https://cps.canon-europe.com/

Or at least appear to have 2 bodies and 3 lenses that qualify.

As an aside it's interesting that the 6D only gets you in for Silver level. To be expected I suppose.

I got mine from Kerso (Flash Camera) and CPS are happy with it. Ian is a good guy too.
If you'd prefer a proper shop give the guys at The Flash Centre a bell, they're a good bunch and whilst not the cheapest you get great service.

Thanks all for the help. She'll probably buy from Wex as she usually does, just wanted to see if there was any opportunity to save from the 2300 ticket price.

Cheers

I was a bit disappointed that my camera was split from a kit, but in reality that's no big deal. Park Cameras have done similar when my wife bought a 40D. I would still consider Kerso for my next purchase.

Standard stuff when you're buying cheap, it also gives other customers the opportunity to buy a cheap 24-105.

Yeah, absolutely, I realise it's a trade-off. I'd just rather have known in advance.

Well this has turned in to a right ballache.

So, my other half emailed flashcamera, but the response she got looked like it was fromn a phished account and was about bank transfers so she was a little unsure.

Went to WEX as that was where she had bought everything previously. One appeared in their bargain basement section at £2000 as a restocked item. She wanted to check that it was fully warranted and could be used with the aforementioned CPS service. She got an email back confirming that it was in good condition and would have a full EU warranty.

A couple of days later it arrived... opening the box, there was an envelope inside from the previous purchaser stating that there was sensor damage to the camera. OH powered it up, took a picture, and there it was! Sensor gubbed. She was furious!!

So she emailed them to say that she would be returning the item and wanted to know why it hadn't been checked when she had specifically asked that it was in good condition - and why was sensitive customer information left in there as well? Standard response of "we will come and collect them item and arrange a refund"..

She had asked that it was collected from my work address this Tuesday but also asked to speak to a manager to complain about the issues. FedEx arrived today (not Tuesday) to collect the camera and were told to come back tomorrow... She called again today to enquire as to when someone would call her back and to ensure fedex would be out tommorow. When she explained the situation the guy on the other end of the phone said something along the lines of "oh, has that happened again?".

So finally late afternoon she got a call from someone at WEX - who said that they had been having this problem with the returns team for a while and that this had happened before.. and basically that it wasn't his fault, move along! Then he said that we wouldn't be able to find another one for 2000 so she had got a good deal?!

What are your thoughts? anyone had similar experience. She never wants to go back!

Did she buy just the body or a with a kit lens?

£2k sounds far far too cheap for my liking but buying from a reputable supplier you would expect that everything would be checked.

What I fail to understand is how could a company accept a return (presumably as faulty goods) then just send it straight back out again without it being checked?

I think I would be kicking off.

Unusual, I've only ever had good service from Wex.

She just bought the body.. 2000 for a "restocked" camera that sells for 2300 doesn't sound that far off?
She had also only ever had good service - have you ever had to resolve a problem with them?

Awful

Thats terrible! And no real apology by the sounds of it either.

"You bought a restocked camera what did you expect, one that works?" ffs

Personally, irrespective of previous good service, the service on this occasion stinks, and the mannerism from what you've said was spoken, would have me seriously worried WEX aren't doing well.
Why have standards slipped?
Why the unapologetic response?

Nevertheless, get a refund and move on to another reseller.

If price is key, as in don't want to go over the £2K mark, then you can pick up a new 5D III from Panamoz for £1755 (depending on how you feel about saving £100 doing a bank transfer).
Aside from being a grey import, the difference could be pocketed, (part) fund a lens you've always fancied having, or an extended warranty - inc lens ones ( http://www.onestop-digital.com/index.php?dispatch=...).
