For a Girlfriend, she uses a Mac and iPhoto/Photo Shop/iMovie to edit. She currently uses a Cannon camera but it's not hers. She's looking for a DSLR with interchangeable lenses, budget is £400-600.

So what is the flavour of the month currently? Any recommendations? Anything to avoid?

www.jessops.com have some great Christmas deals on at the moment in that price range. Worth a look. I'd stick with either Canon or Nikon.

Best thing would be for her to go and have a look and see what she likes the feel of... it's quite a subjective thing.

I've just bought a Canon 60d (partly because I've previously had a 1000d) which I compared to a Nikon D7000... the Canon just *felt* better.

As much as she has used Canon, that shouldn't be the only criteria for judging her own.
As above, head down to a local Jessop's, and look at the Sonys, Nikons, Pentaxes, and Lumixes, and even Olympuses.

I'm all for going down and having a play but there is more to cameras than just ergonomics - it's no secret that there are pro's and con's depending on what you want to shoot.

What sort of photo's is interested in taking - people/sports/landscapes/macro etc?

Jessops are doing the 550D with two lenses for under 500 sheets at the moment.
