I bought a nikon d60 at the start of the year, been pretty happy with it and got some good pictures whilst at the grandprix/superbikes.
I've got a £100 voucher which i can use at pcworld/currys/argos so i'm thinking of upgrading to one of the folowing:
nikon d5100
canon 600d
Other than the higher pixel count would the autofocus be any better than what my d60?
My initial thoughts are get the nikon as i already have a 300mm lens from my d60.

So. Are your D60 shortcomings limited to focussing?
The newer the Nikon body, the better its supposed AF abilities. But whether a D5100 will be "better" is quite a difficult call. A D4 might be noticeably better - that's designed for the most demanding of situations - but in the "mid-range" it's like asking would a new Ford be better than a two year old VW. My bet is that there wouldn't be that much in it. OMMV.

I'd say my biggest problem this year has been the weathers been rubbish so less light and the shutter speeds have come tumbling down.The newer the Nikon body, the better its supposed AF abilities. Don't get me wrong i paid under £100 for the d60 and i've got some really nice pictures, lovely bright colours, keep blowing it up and it's in focus so you can read the tiny stickers on the cars or see the stitching on the leathers etc but the pictures immediately before/after sometimes are out of focus.
Like i said i can use my voucher for £100 so could upgrade to a 5100 for £339 in pc world and i already have a 300mm lens with the built in auto focus.
My old d60 is 3 point autofocus the 5100 is 11 point, so surely this would be a improvement?
You might be better off putting your £100 towards a faster lens. Not only will this allow you to get a faster shutter speed in low light but the AF system will get more light which makes it happier.
A 300mm f2.8 lens is expensive but you could look at s/h 70-200 f2.8 lenses (you do lose the long end from what you've been used to though)

I have a D5100 and have no complaints whatsoever with the AF. I like the 3D focus point tracking in the AF system, and the D7000 sensor used in the D5100 is very good. Overall I have been very happy with mine.
There will be an improvement over the AF system in your camera, not only in the number of focus points. Reviews of the D5100 have been very favourable of its AF system, some snippets from DPReview below:
-Sophisticated AF system for the price
-Easy manual selection of off-center AF points
-Unusually fast Live View AF for a low-end DSLR (but still relatively slow compared to mirrorless competitors)
-A novice-friendly feature set and (relatively) wallet-friendly asking price belie an extremely capable sensor and AF system
But, the best way to decide if it is a worthwhile upgrade for you, is to try it out in a shop.

I've also got a D5100 and am really happy with it. Whether it is worth the upgrade for you or not I can't really say, but as you already own at least one Nikon lens it probably makes sense to stick with Nikon (I looked at both and the general consensus was that the Canon was marginally better for shooting video and the Nikon marginally better for shooting stills)
Apologies for gate crashing your thread, but I was looking at possibly doing something similar, albeit I would be looking at upgrading the body only and keeping my lenses. I have a Canon 1000D and was looking at either the 600 or 650D (Is there much difference between these two?). Is it worth it, or should I spend the money on a new lens? The Lens' I have are the 18-55, 55-250 and the F1.8 50mm.
