So far so good, she hasn't noticed 'another' camera sat on top of the bag. Hopefully she won't open it as she has no interest in photography but I know she knows I only have one 'L' lens which is white. She hasn't clocked the red ring on the black body 
.
Also managed to hide away the extra boxes (although I keep every box anyway for selling stuff on) but hopefully the extra two won't make a difference to the considerable collection.
Only had a play for a few minutes with the new one but feels solid, menu system a bit different to the 7D but shouldn't be too bad.
Had a play with the 50fps movies and put them in slow motion and it seems much smoother than my 7D. Whether that's to do with the IS on the new L lens or better hardware I'm not sure but it was silky smooth!
Taking it out with me tomorrow on a hike up them there hills in North Yorks so hopefully will get a few shots with it.

You need to be pre-emptive. And/or set up an alternative, lesser naughtiness as a focus for her attention. Something manageable ... if you think it is possible to predict what is and is not manageable. Your call. I've know it work for some but would not try it myself due to the certainty of unpredictability.
Anway, back to pre-emptive. Claim someone who has seen your work has insisted that you become part of some odd project they have in mind for documenting something and that have provided the camera for you to use in the project.
You were flattered and accepted before it became clear that that the commitment required was more than you originally expected and might keep you fully occupied in your spare time for several months. Nevertheless you are interested in the potential for the project and don't want to let anyone down so you feel it's best to continue as promised. The most obvious downside is that you are likely to be so busy that nooky may have to take a distant back seat for several months but you hope she will not be too disappointed and understand that the project offers serious potential for future recognition and her sacrifice should pay dividends in the longer term. Any reaction to this information should tell you quite a lot about how the relationship is likely to develop in the future. On the negative side it may, in unusual cases, result in more activity than you would wish for. In that case you may need to consider outsourcing whilst you enjoy the company of the new body.
