Without seeing, I'd guess a black mannequin, then carefully lit so you can 'lose' that and the b/g with a little tweaking.
Generally, I find that the more you think at shoot time and the more carefully you light it, the less shopping you need to get the result you want. It's a trap just to press the button and think 'Oh I'll shop it later' - it's not always that easy.

We had to do a load of clothing stuff a little while back.
We sourced specific mannequin busts for male and female that were Polystyrene Torso busts on a stand but they were versions without fixed arms. These had an option of posable transparent arms that were just plastic tubes. No hands.
We then cut out the necks with a saw. The end result is a properly hung garment with posed sleeves and no hands.
As said, just drop out the background and you're done. No hands or neck to worry about.
You'll see on the second shot below, the sawn edge of the neck inside the collar. When viewed front on, the mannequin is not evident.
