Nikon 1 V1 or alternative?

I've been looking at getting a small(er) camera to work in conjunction with my antique Nikon D70 (6mp, conpact flash etc).
Went to try quite a few at John Lewis, and liked the Lumix GX1 and Nikon V1. The Nikon is very good value right now at £100 less than the Lumix. The Lumix also doesn't have a viewfinder and I'm just not sure I could cope without one!
The Nikon will allow me to use current lenses, once I purchase a fairly expensive (IMO) adapter. It doesn't have a normal hotshoe so my Speedlight cannot be used as far as I am aware.
However, the Nikon can be got for under £300 including case and 10-30mm lens. Seems a bargain.

I can only speak from my own experience as someone new to interchangable lenses, I'd go for the G3, I'm extremely happy with mine.
It's worth trying one out if you've not held it, the grip supposedly isn't so good for large hands. Opinion does seems to be quite mixed on the Nikon 1 system, though of course it depends on individual needs, it does have the smaller 2.7 crop sensor (as opposed to 2 on m43).
I'm a little biased having bought into the m43 system (IQ/lens form factor, I think it's the one to buy into), I'm not sure you can do better than than the G3 for the price, particularly so with the cashback.

There is something intangible about the Nikon I like, but I really do dislike the lack of direct control functions.
The G3 is probably going to be a lot more usable, long after the gimmicks of the V1 have worn off.

The m43 system is significantly more flexible than the Nikon V. Why Nikon used such a small sensor is beyond me and if you are used to an SLR, you may find it frustrating. Also, if you attach a full size Nikon lens (with adaptor), it will be very big again. Nikon lenses should also also be able to work on the m43 with an adaptor but will not autofocus. I switched from full size Canon to m43 and am delighted, mainly because of the smaller dimensions and the price to quality ratio of the lenses.
