Nikon D7000 / D90 advice - choice on cameras

Seeking advice from the knowledgable!
I am more used to the D3 end of the scale and have therefore been asked by a friend about wishing to change his Nikon camera at the amateur end of the market. If any of you have experience, I value your input. I guess he has the DX lenses which no doubt will still suit all the Nikon SLR 'starters' range of cameras
Looked in Jessops today and discovered a Nikon D7000 body is £700 or thereabouts - 16 megapixels 1080HD - screen size 3" and no doubt better in low light with ISO/ASA than the D90 currently priced at £500 (body only) - 12 megapixels 720 as opposed to 1080 and a smaller screen at 2.7"
Horses for courses really while one is cheaper but the more modern one has unquestionable better technology
I understand the Nikon D90 is or is going out of the market.

Interesting they want to upgrade to be able to see the monitor better; the D70 is very lo-res and ponderous by later standards.
If they have no wish to buy new lenses then it's just a case of how much they want to spend. The more they spend the better it will be.
A D70 body won't get anywhere near £200 though I think.
NB: The 18-70 you quote is AF-S and so will focus with all bodies.

Watching threads like this with interest as I'm considering upgrading from my D80 at some stage - faster/better AF/metering, framerate, better DR, higher ISO would all be nice. Have an AF 80-200 f2.8 to cater for so the new smaller bodies don't cut it, but I don't think I want to be carrying anything much bigger than the D80 up mountains either.
