Canon do another mental and release a 6d kit lens that RRP's for $1499, the 24-70f4L IS.
Though its likely to be quite sharp, great IS ( hybrid, 4 stop and 2.5 in macro) 0.7 mag macro mode (better than the 50mmf2.5 compact macro) and should have good bokeh etc.
Canon also launch a 35mmf2.0 IS, a nicely reworked lens with USM, 8 blade aperture and IS, $850 :O
Nikon have launched ( if you hadnt guessed already) a D5200 with the 24mp crop sensor and the d600/d7000 autofocus) that looks a decent little camera.

No, I didn't think so. Much as I (mostly) enjoy having a good bit of Ny-kon glass in my mitts, I do wish they'd have some clear and logical direction, maintain some of their own stated objectives for more than a nanosecond, and generally look like they might be building a sensible business model so we could be sure they'd be there in the future. Many, more focussed technical companies have managed to falter over the years, look at Nokia, Olympus, Kodak, RIM, Minolta.............
Sadly focus is distracted by the competition - if Canon bring out a camera with a cookoo that springs out of the top (well, more likely to be Sony TBH) - Nikon will probably then bring out a model with a cookoo that springs out of the top as well. Except it will be better because it has more acronyms.

Apart from your (deliberate?) misspell of "cookoo/cuckoo" - that sounds like a really good idea!!! 
Especially compared to the ability of a 24megapixie camera being able to wirelessly connect to your Bananaphone ( which can't hold more than 64giganibbles at the best of times ). Oh - and let's make it an "add-on-separately-chargeable-gizmo" while we're about it. Genius!

On the D5200. The external widgets (Wi-Fi and GPS) should be built in (the GP-1 is massively overpriced and unwieldy in use). Max continuous drive rate only 0.5 fps improvement over the D5100 too (5 vs 4.5fps). No improvement in flash sync speed (1/200s). New sensor and AF sound fantastic.
I won't be buying but I only got my D5100 14 months ago and this isn't a big enough step for the outlay.

The D5200 seems to be the D3200 sensor with the D7000 AF in a D5100 body pretty much, a nice evolution but hardly earth shattering. I know new launch models always demand a premium but who in their right mind would pay £819 for one with the kit lens, currently double the cost of a new D5100 and more than a D7000 with a better kit lens?

One of the reasons I want the 35mm f/1.4 (or maybe now the 35mm f/2 depending on price and reviews) is the ability to take indoor shots in low light without flash. So, I can see what you're getting at, that would mean using it wide open which would allow for higher shutter speeds and the higher the shutter speed the less the need for IS? I would say then that putting IS on a fast prime gives it more flexibility, i.e. under the same shooting conditions you could switch the IS on and reduce the shutter speed if you needed to narrow the aperture for a particular shot whilst not having to ramp up the ISO. To some extent anyway. How much of a difference it will make remains to be seen hence I'll be interested to read the reviews

After recovering from the price shock, if the quality is good enough and the macro OK I could see me having this and selling the tamron 90. But it would have to be a good step over the 24-105. )RobDickinson said:

24mm is wide enough for most things, often you can stitch if you need wider.
What you cant do is shoot something really wide that has movement, so seascapes etc I will keep the 17-40 for.
