Camera insurance - recommendations?

Currently looking at the most cost effective way to get decent insurance for my gear. Adding items on to my household policy doesn't look to be the answer so can anyone recommend any specialist policies for camera equipt. An idea of premiums would help too. Thanks.

I found that adding my equipment to my household policy was by far cheaper than a specialist insurance. Obviously depends on who you are with at the moment

I have used both Aaduki and Photoguard in the past, although currently my gear isn't insured. Cover had been between £150 and £300 depending on the amount of kit I had and the level of third party liability cover I needed.

Thanks for the replies. I found a price comparison website (there seems to be one for everything) which is camerainsurance.co.uk. Putting my details into there with like for like cover (basically amateur, no P L cover, low excess for damage £100) the cheapest quote was from Eversure ins. I've never heard of them. Anyone for or against? BTW Photoguard were quoting more than double for similar cover.

Alternative approach is to get your home insurance from hiscox, then you don't have to "extend" it to cover your phtographic equipment, you get new for old, worldwide away from home cover etc. You don't even have to tell them what you've got unless the whole lot is worth over £15k.

The excess is high and it only applies if photography is a hobby that you do not ever accept payment for (I asked when I took the policy out a couple of years ago).

This is asked pretty regularly, and I always recommend Glover and Howe. I've used them for years, have made several claims and have no complaints at all. Claims have been dealt with quickly and efficiently, email them the claim form and cheque comes a week later. My premium is about £600/year, but that's £20k worth of kit as a pro with PL and professional indemnity cover too.

I'm with Photoguard, luckily haven't had to claim yet.

I pay about £38 a month for about £10k worth of gear with new replacement values of about £25k. I have in vehicle cover, public liability and international cover.

I'm with Photoguard - put my first claim in a week or so ago, they were quick to deal with it and communication was great throughout, and they pay the repairers direct if you want.

Thanks. Whilst I'd like to pay less if possible I'm prepared to pay more for a recommended company with a history of good customer service. Same way I'd look at any insurance really.
