Go Pro Video Editing Software

Afternoon,

I have a Go Pro on order and I am wondering what video editing software people recommend for a complete novice.

I am using a PC running Windows 7 and at this stage I’m not planning on public hosting video footage, it would be just for fun and to be stored on my PC / NAS at this stage.

Don’t know if it makes any difference to your suggestions but I’m a techie by trade so computer competent, but Go Pro and video editing is totally new ground for me.

Windows Movie Maker is free and as good a place as any to start. I've heard that if you want to spend money then Adobe make a good one, and Sony Vegas is meant to be good too. I've not used anything but Windows Movie Maker yet myself.

What I'd really like is a "highlights" package maker. Where you'd get your raw footage and then add a series of "on" and "off" markers to it. Then playback would run from the first "on" marker to the next "off" marker, then skip straight the the next "on" marker. This would allow you to re-trim clips easily, by sliding the markers if you needed a longer in or out or whatever. Then the output file would be produced by basically just rendering your cuts, saving a new file with only the selected highlights in.

However all the software I've seen so far (well, windows movie maker really) forces you to SPLIT the video first, and then delete the bits you don't want. So to remove a section you split at the start, adn the end, and then delete the section. If you decide you want a bit of that back it's an utter fag to do.

If someone knows a software to do this I'd be very grateful. Paid is fine. (Sorry for hijack, but may help OP too). PS - I've heard of a "mute" function which might do this, but don't know if muting all tracks will show up as black for a time, or skip the muted section. This was adobe or sony, can't remember which.

I used to use Windows Movie Maker on XP. Then I needed to install it on Windows 7 and downloaded the latest version. It's horrible, they've made it even more dumb. I downloaded Adobe Premiere Elements as a trial, but really didn't get on with it, and found that it needed hacking about to get it to work with footage from my GoPro.

So, I ended up spending £25 on Sony Vegas, boxed, from PC World, buy online and pick up in store. Really pleased with it. Much prefer it to WMM, even the old version on XP which didn't suck quite so much.

Wondering the same, I picked up a GoPro at the airport for messabout stuff with a suction mount and a chest wig thing

I was going to give Final Cut a go but if anyone has any other suggestions for Mac I'd appreciate it

I always use imovie on the mac. My mate raves about the free gopro editing software from the web site, but not used it myself.

It's pretty basic but I find that iMovie is a pretty good place to start. It came with my mac but I'm not sure it's still installed with the OS as standard.

Im using Final Cut Pro at the moment and I find it very good and easy to use, shame its on a free trial that is about to run out and Im not paying £200 for it!
