looks ok... no doubt there will be a EVF add-on for some extra outlay. They have to make an EVF really high quality though, I hate ones with low res screens inside.

Looks like an interesting entry. (There a preview on dpreview as one might expect.)
Given that the touch screen seems to be THE preferred control for the camera I doubt a viewfinder will be missed much. Using a 600D outdoors on Saturday the screen quickly became very difficult to see with so much screen/face interaction and did not respond very well to cleaning attempts. Would be unhelpful if the touch screen was the prime interface even if the screen had an auto off feature for both display and touch sensitivity.
Now if they bring out an enthusiast version with articulated screen that might make more sense (you could fold the screen away) but then the ability to control the camera without the touch screen would mean more buttons and stuff ....
All in all it's an interesting marketing point pitch. No doubt things will develop if they think the uptake is good enough.

Not EF/S - EF/M, a new mount for compact lenses.As a travel/walkabout camera I think it would be great, especially with the 22mm pancake lens, but in reality it wouldn't replace my 5D and I doubt it would be too small to replace my S90, so couldn't really see myself using it that much.
What might happen is that Canon move their DSLRs upmarket, ditching the XXXXD and possibly XXXD models, or moving to only FF DSLRs (they've already got rid of 1.3x crop).

even with the pdaf.forgive my naivety but i don't understand the point of these type of cameras.
they are nice and small with the standard non zoom pancake lenses. But invariably every other lens is massive so completely negating the primary USP which is small size. then if you want to add a viewfinder, it's a horrible EVF that again makes the thing bigger.
It doesn't even have a flash, and battery life won't be great because of that massive LCD which is used for composing every shot.
Am i missing something here?
