Lightroom 4 - 1 user Win/Mac

Hello all,

I am looking to possibly buy Lightroom 4, either on its own or as part of a discount deal Amazon are currently running if you buy a camera also. I note that the version you get is for Windows and Mac but is for 1 user. My main question is, if I have a Windows AND a Mac, am I able to load Lightroom from this licence onto the 2 machines under the same user? Has anyone tried/done it?

I switched to a Mac 12 months ago. Obviously I was not using 4, but 3. I had this on disc and had previously loaded on PC and laptop. Had no problem when it came to MBP.

Will you get physical copy or a download?

I have a laptop and a desktop both running Windows 7.

I managed to load Lightroom 3 onto both, I would expect the same from Lightroom 4.

Its a physical copy.

Good to know it works for you, and MANY thanks for the research, nice to see its official etc.

Just thinking some more, the issue will be if you're trying to update multiple copies rather than initial loading.

As you probably know you need to plug in the number and register the copy(ies) that you're using and downloading updates should then happen semi-automatically without need to re-register anything. That's the point that Adobe's system will likely throw a paddy once you're up to three copies or more.......


As a slight O/T, LR4 seems to be very stable and I have been impressed (MBP running 8Gb RAM with a small SSD and Firewire 800 external drive) with how quick it is coping with pretty obese D800 NEF files. Previous versions of LR have often caused a Dell running Vista and only 4Gb of RAM to quickly grind to a halt when asked to process. Made Develop a big PITA at times.

The only thing I notice as being slow - in a relative sense - is how long it takes a slideshow to load, but even that is not excessive.


I find Lightroom a real pleasure to use again now. (I know other programs can possibly do it better, before anyone points this out!)

So I SHOULD be able to install it on both my MBP and Windows Laptop then, which is cool.

Installing on two different machines is not a problem. However, I think Adobe might object to two different operating systems. It's true with Photoshop, for which you have to buy separate Windows/Mac versions (although each purchase can be put on two machines). The dual OS restriction might apply to LR as well, even though it's a dual-OS delivery.

I run LR3 concurrently with same licence conditions, IIRC it says 3 machines, on 1 desktop and three laptops with no issues.
