Anyone ever sent their EOS to Canon for service?

Reviewing some photos from a recent holiday it's quite obvious the sensor is in need of a proper clean. I've done my best with various blowers but still the dust persists.
I've noticed the Canon service centre is in Elstree (quite near to where my parents live).
Anyone had any experience of getting their EOS serviced there? Any ideas of the potential cost?

Not sure Canon do their own repair/servicing any more.
I dropped my 300D in Edinburgh last year and although I returned it to Canon, they forwarded it on to a third party for the actual repair. To be honest I wish they hadn't bothered as it's still not right and it cost more than a 2nd hand replacement would have cost. Luckily the insurance company paid for most of it.

Just found a company local to where I work. Apparently only one of three approved Canon service centres in the UK.
Sensor clean appears to be around £25+VAT. Will give it a go this week and feedback.

Sensor cleaning is a relatively easy DIY job with the right tools. Just needs some care.
Most camera shops will do it (or so it seems). If that is all that is required there would be no need to go to a specialist service centre.
Of course how good the clean is will depend on the people in the shop. However at least you can check the results immediately.

If they are the same one who used to be in Barrack St, then I've had a very bad experience with them, so personally I wouldn't recommend them. Sensor clean appears to be around £25+VAT. Will give it a go this week and feedback.

Mine was sent off to canon to be repaired after a hard drop from an R/C helicopter and I had to send it back again because they didn't align the viewfinder properly so the edge of the viewfinder was slightly distorted.
Apart from that they did a good job, although I think the light meter might be slightly out

This is what I had... infact I got it better because my camera was 4 weeks out of warranty (officially) however they seem to have a bit of a grace period for serious issues. I had a serious issue because the sensor on my 400D would only produce purple and green colours with lots of noise! They basically had me send it to a 3rd party canon authorised repair shop. What did you get done?
I'm tempted to give it a go as it's local (can take it at lunchtime) and in the scheme of things a sensor clean is quite straight forward.
Plus, Japan trip starts next Fri so time is short. Dirty sensor isn't so much of an issue when using the telephoto at f/4 but one I start stoppiing down to f/8+ on a wider angle lens, there are one or two problem areas which are starting to bug me.

I've used Lehmanns indirectly when Bristol Cameras sent my 40D off for a shutter replacement under warranty. Quick service and the camera has been good since.
I've also used Black on White (http://www.bonwcameras.co.uk/) in Bristol a couple of times. Once to remove a filter from a lens I'd dropped. The glass in the filter had shattered but the filter ring was bent and jammed on the lens. They've also replaced the IS unit in one of my lenses.

Without going into too much details, basically they promised to do a job that was specifically described as 'urgent', but the item stayed on their shelf for so long without getting any attention, then when they were confronted, they made up stories (but most of the time, they ignored my queries). Just extremely poor customer service. What did you get done?
They could be totally unrelated. But it's a coincidence that they share the same name!

I only opted for the sensor clean. On picking up the camera, they told me that they had replaced the focus mirror anyway as a goodwill gesture for free. Hurrah.
Couple of test shots suggest free of dust and ready to go. No excuses for shabby shots in Japan now.

Yes, Colchester one. I suspect most shots will be a combination of 70-200L and 10-20 ultra-wide.injury time
Sent my 10D to Lehmanns for a service and shutter replacement, lots of people telling me not to worry and offering reassurance that they have the parts, can do the job etc only to get the camera back un-repaired due to lack of parts and one rude woman on the phone who's answer to my enquiry of why I was told one thing and received another was "well, you'll have to buy a new one"
