Anyone seen the new Sony RX100?
Discussion
I go through cameras faster than most people, but consistently seem to be looking for a pocket-sized camera that gives good all-round image quality.
I up/downgraded from a Canon DSLR set up to Sony NEX a few years ago, and have been pleased with that but the NEX is still too big for a pocket, so I decided to buy a compact as well.
I ended up with a Sony TX10 which is very compact as well as being waterproof, I knew I would take a bit of a hit on image quality, but I found lowish light shots unusable.
Last week, I bought a Canon S100. It seems a lot better than the Sony, but now Sony seem to have hit back with the new RX100:

As this review says, it looks as though Sony have copied the design of the S95/S100, but put in a much larger sensor and a brighter lens.
I like the look of it, but all the time these cameras are creeping back up in size and the $650 asking price is pretty frightening for a compact. I guess that will end up as at least £500 over here and you could buy a Nex-5N or Canon 500D for that.
Still thought it was an interesting release, though.

It looks exceptional. As you say, though, the price will be a killer. I'll guess £550 to £600.
I have an NEX-3, and adore it. Picked up a £20 50mm F1.7 (1989 Rokkinor of some description) for it and the results are fantastic. But I'm moving to London in a few months, and would love an S95/S100/RX100 sized camera to pop in my bag and carry around with me every day. I don't think I could justify the likely RX100 cost, sadly.
