Sony HX20 - Any thoughts?

I'm really tempted to get this camera. Does anyone have any thoughts, good or bad?

You can get it for £250 currently, with the cashback offer running. Quite a lot of camera for the money!

Well, I bought it. Whilst there were no comments on here, the reviews on the web seem to be pretty good.

Can you get it for 250? Is it 290 then 50 cash back? Rather not know as I paid £330 from Sony (but got case etc free (£50 value) plus 40 cash back that's been applied for.

As replied in previous thread, I really like mine. Let us know how you get on with it, I'm fairly sure you won't be disappointed, by far the best compact I have used.

It's £290 plus £40 cash back - you're completely right. I actually managed a little bit cheaper than that, though not by much!

You did well I think, as I want the case for it, so I'll have to spend out for that anyway!

I've taken a few test shots, and like it, but it's raining now. Hopefully get some use out of it in London this weekend.

Pulse... have you had much of a chance to play around with the camera yet?

Im on holiday and have now discovered my my digital zoom is actually very poor when the photos are viewed again.

I have loaded a few on my laptop and zoomed in - not even that far - and the picture quality is very bad. I think it might have something to do with the settings that may have been changed as it wasn't doing this when i got the camera...

If you have a second do you mind seeing if there is a way to do a factory reset? Hopefully i can do this so the rest of my photos aren't as bad!

I'm getting on well with mine, and despite my initial reluctance to use the "40x zoom" function, I've used it a fair bit with good results.

I've not seen anything about hard resetting it though.

I considered this but bought a Panasonic TZ30 which you can buy for £239 with cashback. It's a great camera though tests vary between the two as to which is best.

I can't recall why I specifically rejected the Sony - it was either because of an inability to get a GPS signal or because the photos were over-processed but Have no regrets.

As you say, they are much of a muchness. Not much in it, apart from the Sony being more expensive to do the same job.

I bought the Sony out of personal preference more than anything else. Mine cost under £240 with cashback as well.

Having played with the settings I think I have solved the blurry zoom issue. I think it was just case of playing around with settings as I was shooting in very bright light and trying to focus far in the distance.... much better now!
